We all believe in being neat and orderly. After all, our parents have always told us that cleanliness is godly. Besides, cleanliness also ensures that one steers clear of disease-causing pathogens that make us sick. But behold, not everybody believes in this narrative. If anything, an Iranian man has gone without a shower or bath for nearly 70 years. You read that right! The dirtiest man in the world has never washed himself for at least six decades.
The Iranian national is a prime candidate for the Guinness World Record for being the dirtiest man in the world. The 87 year old man has been able to live a healthy life without washing himself for so long.
His name is Amou Haji who fears that if he washes himself, he is most likely to get sick. One cannot blame him because after more than six decades without a bath, his rationale of breaking the dry spell if most probably true. It will take a tremendous amount of scrubbing to remove all the dirt in his skin.
The dirtiest man in the world is so dirty that if he stands still, one can mistake him with a rock in his surroundings. Life in the Iranian desert, with rotting porcupine meat as his favourite meal, is the one that he is accustomed to.
To stay healthy he drinks five litres of water from a rusty oil can every day. He also loves to smoke but his style of smoking involves inhaling dried cow dung instead of tobacco.
Locals believe that a broken heart was the reason that Amou Haji chose this lifestyle. However, he still hasn’t given up on finding love.
Amou Haji is homeless although villagers built a hut for him, which he choose not to live in. Mr. Haji enjoys his nomadic life in the Iranian desert and has no access to the comforts of the modern world.
His isolation from the rest of the world will work in his favor as he will avoid exposure to COVID-19 that is ravaging the world currently. According to the Kenya Ministry of Health statistics, Kenya currently has 96,802 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
