Tangatanga and the Kieleweke factions faced-off on Sunday resulting in the death of two youths in Murang’a County. The violence between the two groups who are allied to Deputy President William Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta respectively is the apex of the cold war between Kenya’s number 1 and number 2 in the country.
The Kieleweke team was led by Murang’a County Women Representative Sabina Chege while the Tangatanga group was led by Kiharu MP Mr. Ndindi Nyoro. Both sides swarmed the Kenol-Murang’a Road with their youthful supporters in tow. The violence erupted when the Kieleweke team attempted to prevent the Tangatanga group from accessing Murang’a Town.
Calling themselves “HustlerNations”, the Tangatanga group vowed they will not heed to the Kieleweke team’s demands to turn back and leave the area. The group allied to William Ruto claimed that the dynasties were angered by the HustlerNation’s efforts to empower the youth via the distribution of capital assets including wheelbarrows, donkey carts (mikokoteni) car wash machines and Kinyozi equipment.
Kieleweke and Tangatanga Leaders To be Arrested
Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambei has ordered the arrest of leaders of the Kieleweke and Tangatanga group. These leaders include Kiharu MP Mr. Ndindi Nyoro, Murang’a County Women Representative Sabina Wanjiru Chege and Alice Muthoni Wahome who is the MP of Kandara.
The three law-makers have been accused of orchestrating the deadly skirmishes witnessed in Kenol, Murang’a county where Kieleweke and Tangatanga groups attacked each other leading to the deaths of two youths in the area. The incidence occurred on Sunday before the arrival of Deputy President William Ruto who was to officiate a fundraiser event in the region.
So far, Ndindi Nyoro and Alice Wahome have accused Sabina Chege of hiring and bringing truckloads of youth into the Kenol area with an aim of causing havoc for the Tangatanga factions. To corroborate this accusations, a video emerged on social media in which a bloodied female youth indeed confirmed that they were given Ksh. 1,000 to cause a disturbance in order to bar William Ruto from accessing Kenol town.
Based on the account of a youth caught by residents of Kenol, they were shipped into the area all the way from Thika Town on board a Kenya Mpya Bus. All were to be paid Ksh. 1000 each in order to prevent William Ruto from getting inside town. But apparently by the time the violence erupted, they were yet to be paid by Sabina Chege.
