Kapseret MP Mr. Oscar Sudi surrendered to police less than 24 hours ago. Mr. Oscar Kipchumba Sudi has some skeletons in his closet and this article will try to reveal some of the surprising facts about the outspoken Kapseret Constituency Member of Parliament. Oscar Sudi, like Elgeyo Marakwet senator Mr. Kipchumba Murkomen, is a die hard Tanga Tanga supporter and it is safe to say the dude can willingly accept to take a bullet in order to shield Deputy President William Ruto.
Oscar Sudi’s utterances against president Uhuru Kenyatta and the head of state’s mother does not really account to any offense and it is very likely that the government already knows this but is engaging in scare tactics so as to prevent copycats of will-be “Sudis” and “Ngenos” out there.
The president expects this kinds of dirty politics as he has been in politics for more than 20 years. Even Johanna Ngeno’s harsh criticism of president Uhuru Kenyatta, Jomo Kenyatta and the former president’s wife, Ngina does not account to a crime. But the government wants to look tough and that is why they arrested Ekuru Dikirr MP.
Surprisingly, both the Narok county MP and his counterpart for Uasin Gishu county have been arrested before. Mr. Ngeno, the Emurua Dikirr MP was arrested and booked at the Narok Police cells in September 3rd, 2019 for incitement, obstruction and holding illegal public meetings.
On the other hand, Mr. Oscar Sudi was also arrested in 2017 for forging academic certificates in order to qualify for the 2013 parliamentary elections. As of today, the forgery case against the Kapseret MP is still meandering around in the country’s justice corridors and remains unresolved as of the time of publishing this article. But people will be wondering; who is this loud-mouthed politician from Eldoret?
Oscar Sudi: Career Profile
MP Oscar Sudi comes from a very humble beginning. Mr. Sudi grew up poor and according to his statement of accounts, he and some of his siblings were landless as they depended on an old man called Mzee Kibor Arap Talai who allowed them to stay in his farm on a temporary basis.
As per his story, Mr. Sudi told The Standard that he used to sleep in the kitchen with his two brothers. The MP added that his mother was jobless while his father was a charcoal dealer. The MP recounted that his dad’s meager income of selling charcoal at Ksh.40 per bag enabled Mr. Sudi to attend primary school at Tulwop-Ngetuny Primary School.
It is worth noting that Mr. Sudi lists Olympic Primary School as the institution that granted him his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE). Oscar Sudi’s academic qualifications have been under scrutiny from Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission who alleges that they are all fake.
Oscar Sudi is illiterate and does not have a degree nor a diploma in Business Management from the Kenya Institute of Management. The information on his profile on the Parliament Of Kenya website is false as it is based on his reports to the webmaster of the national government website. In 1995, Oscar Sudi’s mother opened up a grocery shop at Moi University Main Campus roundabout. The MP frequented this place while helping his mother and it is this place where he befriended Matatu operators who came to purchase his mother’s wares.
He asked to join the matatu operators and that is how he ended up being a Matatu conductor.
“The conductors became my friends and I began working as a parking boy in 1996. After six months, I got introduced to one matatu owner, Mzee Barnabas Sawe, whose vehicles were labelled Carlos,” says Sudi. “He was paying me Sh800 and by the end of the year, he increased it to Sh1,200 due to my hard work and honesty,” Hon Sudi lamented.
Oscar Sudi liked the matatu business, learnt to drive and when he turned 18 years old in 1998, he bought his own Peugeot 504 matatu. To supplement his income from the matatu business, Mr. Sudi bought fertilizers and hybrid maize seeds to plant. The Kapseret MP revealed that he cultivated 3 acres of land in 1998 and then increased to seven acres a year later.
How He Ended Up in Politics
Oscar Sudi revealed to the Daily Post that he has helped several politicians advance their political careers within the last 20 years. Mr. Sudi helped David Koros run for the Eldoret South parliamentary seat in 2003. But the MP dumped him quickly after getting into power.
To get his revenge, Sudi supported Peris Simam for the same seat in 2007 in an attempt to oust Mr. Koros. “I spent a significant amount of money to support her get into power and masterminded campaign work but three months after elections, she began evading me”, Oscar Sudi said.
The Kapseret Constituency was split from the larger Edoret South Constituency. Oscar Sudi seized this opportunity and in the 2013 General Election, he successfully ran for the parliamentary seat for Kapseret. Mr. Sudi was re-elected as an MP in 2017.
