ODM Party leader Raila Odinga now says he paid for the Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ng’eno’s university education but forgot to teach the Narok County legislator some basic manners. Raila Odinga was speaking at a Bomet county political meeting in which Mr. Ng’eno also attended.
Raila Odinga was referring to Mr. Ng’eno’s fiery attacks on president Uhuru Kenyatta a fortnight ago in which the MP slammed the president to work in conjunction with deputy president William Ruto. The Emurua Dikirr Constituency MP accused president Kenyatta of isolating William Ruto on matters related to development.
During the six minute video, Mr. Ng’eno urged president Uhuru Kenyatta to lead the country according to the Kenyan Constitution and failure of which the head of state must resign and go back to his native home in Gatundu. The MP also warned the president not to select a successor to his presidency as Kenyans were capable of selecting their own leaders. Mr. Ng’eno encouraged Mr. Kenyatta to follow retired president Mwai Kibaki’s example of leaving office at the end of his term without hinting on a successor head of state for the country. Here is Mr. Ng’eno’s infamous video:
In yesterday’s meeting, Raila Odinga cautioned the Emurua Dikirr MP about bringing other people’s parents into personal confrontation with his political opponents. The former prime minister said the MP could have not been in trouble if he had steered clear of president Uhuru Kenyatta’s mother in his tussle with the president.
“This is my man, he is my son. He forgot to tell you that I paid for his university education school fees. This is a person I have been talking to regularly for a very long time. But I forgot to teach him courtesy and decorum”, Raila Odinga said.
“If you are having personal disputes with another man, refrain from bringing their parents into your confrontations with the man. I know when I was young, if someone talk about my parent, we will fight each other. But if he could have steered clear of someone else’s parents, he could not have been in trouble. It is freedom of speech and democracy we have in this country and we are ready to defend it”, added the former prime minister.
Mr. Odinga was speaking while attending a church function in Bomet County on Sunday. The ODM leader was at the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) chairman Mr. Wilson Sossion’s home where he was a the chief guest.
The meeting was attended by various political leaders including Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) chairman Mr. Francis Atwoli. The leaders heaped praises at Mr. Sossion for giving his daughter quality education.
About the Building Bridges Initiative, Mr. Odinga said the campaign to hold a referendum will kick-off immediately after the coronavirus pandemic ends. He was however forced to cut his speech short due to heavy rainfall downpour as attendees scampered for safety when the rain touched down.
