South Mogirango MP Sylvanus Osoro verbally abused Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Interior Dr. Fred Matiang’i terming him the most useless man in Kenya. Mr. Osoro said this during deputy president William Ruto’s visit to Nyamira County yesterday.
In the video, Sylvanus Osoro can be heard describing a past event where William Ruto was scheduled to hold a meeting. Mr. Osoro goes on to allege that Ruto’s opponents deliberately defecated on the field in which Ruto to hold a meeting in an attempt to discourage the deputy president from holding a political rally in the area. Mr. Osoro mocks the perpetrators of this heinous act as he alleges that they were full grown men.
Then the legislator energizes the crowd by asking them to name the most useless man in Kenya. The crowd yells “Matiang’i!!”. Sylvanus Osoro then asks them to name the person who is lobbying teargas at them. The crowd roars again, “Matiang’i!!”. Then the South Mogirango MP goes ahead to say that Matiang’i has never been elected even for the position of a chairman of a cattle dip.
Whereas the MP’s beef against Dr. Matiang’i may appear petty to most regular citizens, most of them will understand that both the deputy president and the Cabinet Secretary of the Interior have had bad blood between them. Mr. Osoro is just trying to appease Ruto by going after the latter’s “enemies”.
For example, in July, Fred Matiang’i urged deputy president William Ruto to resign after he criticized the government for arresting the Bomet, Kakamega and Samburu Senators who were at the verge of voting at the senate for the County Revenue Allocation Formula. When challenged, Mr. Matiang’i denied calling for Ruto’s resignation and said that the media misquoted him.
Most politicians who have mocked Matiang’i have eventually been arrested and then charged with some trumped-up offenses. Such politicians include Emurua Dikkir MP Johanna Ngeno, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro. All eyes will be on Sylvanus Osoro for the next few days to see whether he will follow the same fate as his colleagues who have gotten themselves arrested for “poking the bear”.
Sylvanus Osoro: Career Profile
The South Mogirango MP is a very novice politician who is currently serving his first term in office. He was elected under the Kenya National Congress Party in the 2017 Parliamentary elections after defeating incumbent Manson Nyamweya.
Mr. Osoro did his KCPE examinations in 2002, and sat for the KCSE examinations in 2006 where he scored a B+. He got admitted to Kenyatta University to pursue a degree in education but turned down the offer. He instead joined Mount Kenya University in 2014 and graduated with a Bachelor of Law on the same year he was elected as Member of Parliament for South Mogirango Constituency.
