This woman made up a poster sign urging Mumias MP, Peter Salasya to marry her. On the big sign, the woman said she is loving and god-fearing. She also provided her phone numbers so that the MP can call her back.
On the poster sign, the woman identifies herself as Lydia Ronad. She says that she is hardworking, god-fearing, loving and caring. She also put an image of the Mumias East MP Peter Salasya on the poster.
“MP, Peter Salasya, Marry Me Pliz, Pliz Mheshimiwa (Mumias)”. The sign says. ” Iam Lydia Ronad, Phone No. 0748XXXXXX. Iam hardworking, God-fearing, loving and caring”, the poster says.
At the bottom of the poster, Lydia concludes with the image of a well-dressed Peter Salasya with the name of the constituency he represents (Mumias East).
It is not surprising that the woman wants Peter Salasya to marry her. Two weeks ago, Mr. Salasya himself told a leading Kenya Daily Newspaper that he was indeed looking for a wife. The MP revealed to the Standard Media that he in fact was looking for a prayerful woman to marry.
“I am looking for a young prayerful woman. She should be focused and supportive. Presentable too…if you are able to speak to people in the village, you are the one,” he said.
Below is a video of MP talking to the media about the kind of woman he is looking for:

It is unclear whether the MP has seen the image of the woman declaring her availability for marriage. Mr. Salasya won the Mumias East Constituency seat in the 2022 general elections. He ran under the DAP party banner and easily defeated ANC’s David Wamatsi.
In 2017, Peter Salasya contested for the same seat. But he lost as he only received 300 votes. Some of the reasons given for his defeat was that he was unmarried and hence a joker. Benjamin Washiali back then capitalized on the Luhya community’s value for maturity to target Mr. Salasya.
“Can you vote for a man without a house, a wife and even one who cannot afford a comb to style his hair?” Washiali would scoff at each campaign rally.
Mr. Washiali went on to win Mumias East Constituency seat in 2017. But it looks like Mr. Salasya was unfazed and ran for the same seat in 2022 while single.
By winning the seat on his bachelorhood, Mr. Salasya challenged the relevancy of the Luhya traditions. Does one really need to be married in order to be considered a leader? Let us know on the comments below.
