Babu Owino has threatened to sue NTV over the airing of a story about his shooting of DJ Evolve. This follows NTV’s publication of Babu Owino’s case that is pending in court about his shooting of Felix Orinda, otherwise popularly known as DJ Evolve.
The Embakasi East Constituency Member of Parliament Babu Owino shot DJ Evolve on January 16, 2020 in one of the night clubs in Nairobi. The lawmaker was subsequently arrested and charged with manslaughter 10 days later.
He was released on bail shortly after that by furnishing the court with 10 million shillings bond money.
DJ Evolve’s family was against Babu Owino’s release from jail and argued that the politician was an influential person who might use his fame to jeopardize the safety of his victim. The court explained the necessity of releasing Mr. Owino as paramount to enable him raise money to cater for DJ Evolve’s medical bills.
Babu Owino’s case came into the limelight after DJ Evolve’s disturbing scenes of suffering trended on social media while Babu Owino on the other hand was seen partying. Also, NTV aired the legislator’s case on television on Monday and featured the full story on the front page of the Daily Nation Newspaper.
Judiciary Asked To Fast-track the Babu Owino Case
Meanwhile, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has asked the judiciary to fast-track Babu Owino’s case. The came as a result of relentless public uproar about Babu Owino roaming freely while his victim is confined in hospital bed and suffering.
The public was incensed by a video of DJ Evolve lying in bed struggling to speak to reporters. His mumbled speech is probably due to damaged vocal cords caused by a bullet when the entertainer was shot on the neck by the lawmaker early this year.
It seems like DJ Evolve may be paralyzed either partially as he was seen unable to move. After being shot, the entertainer underwent a series of surgeries in hospital with the bill mounting to a whopping ksh. 17 million as of June 30, 2020.
There were some reports about three months ago that Mr. Owino was helping pay Mr. Evolve’s hospital bills at the time, although it is unclear whether the lawmaker still makes the said payments at the moment.
The Shooting Incidence
DJ Evolve was shot by Mr. Owino on January 16, 2020. The shooting occured at the Billionaire’s Club (b-club) located along Galana Road in Nairobi’s Kilimani Estate. It was reported that Mr.
Owino shot DJ Evolve twice in the neck on that fateful day. the shooting occurred after an argument between the two parties regarding who possessed the biggest gun.
According to the police, the gun used to shoot the DJ was a Steyr M9-A1 rifle. After the shooting, Mr. Owino and his handlers took the victim to the Nairobi Hospital where he is recuperation to this day.
