Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika is one of the most active supporters of the Tanga Tanga team allied to Deputy President William Ruto. In a fiery speech yesterday, the feisty Senator from Nakuru County attacked president Uhuru Kenyatta urging him to obey Chief Justice David Maraga’s advice to dissolve parliament. Susan Kihika also lamented that there are plans underway to bring Mzungus (Matias Cola) to the country who are hell bent on rigging elections by stealing votes.
The Nakuru Senator was speaking in Kajiado county where William Ruto was holding a political rally after unsuccessfully attempting to convince the Jubilee Party higher-ups to field a candidate for the Msambweni Constituency MP.
Susan Kihika called on president Uhuru Kenyatta to not only dissolve parliament, but also the government since it has failed to enact the two thirds gender rule as stipulated by the Kenyan constitution. She also took a jab at a second wave of the Huduma Number registration of all Kenyans.
Since she got elected as the Nakuru County Senator, Susan Kihika has been a real thorn to Uhuru Kenyatta’s leadership in the country. In early May 2020, Susan Kihika and the Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen were sacked from the Majority Whip and Majority Leader respectively by members of the Jubilee Party who are loyal to president Uhuru Kenyatta.
The two senators were fired for insubordination due to their open criticism and hostilities directed at the Jubilee Party leader Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta. Specifically, Susan Kihika criticized the Uhuru Kenyatta and the current Jubilee government for extending the curfew and ramping up on demolition of Kenyan citizens’ properties while the Coronavirus pandemic was at its peak in the country.
“Let me get this right: We are extending curfews and cessations but also demolishing homes for over 100 families in Ruai under the cover of darkness? Leaving them to spend the night in the cold during this rainy season not to mention it is during the Corona Pandemic as we continue to sing; stay home, stay safe and sanitize?”, Susan Kihika wrote.
“Okay! Makes a lot of sense! Heartbroken for all the affected God is watching!”, Ms Kihika added.
Susan Kihika: Career Profile
The 46 years old Senator Susan Kihika returned to Kenya from the United States of America in 2012. She has been living in Dalla, Texas, USA for the past 20 years prior to the return while pursuing her studies. Upon graduation, she launched the Kihika Law Firm in Dallas, Texas but abandoned it and a few months later.
Susan Kihika comes from a rather large family. Her dad is polygamous with a total of 14 children born to him by his two wives. Senator Kihika is the sixth child in their family.
In the 2013 general elections, Susan Kihika contested for the Parliamentary seat for Bahati Costituency but lost. But she later tried her hand for the position of the Nakuru County Assembly Speaker and won in a landslide.
In the 2017 general elections, she successfully contested for the Nakuru County Senate position which she holds to this day. There are some rumors that Ms Kihika may be eyeing for the Nakuru County governorship in 2022 to replace incumbent Lee Kinyanjui as the Nakuru County boss.
The Kihika Bill
Susan Kihika is infamously known for being sexually liberal. Perhaps she learnt this from her more than 20 years stay in the USA where sexuality is openly expressed. Then it follows that when Ms Kihika sponsored the Reproductive Healthcare Bill, 2019, she faced a lot of opposition, particularly from members of the clergy.
The opposition was not driven by prudishness that the clergy have been accused of in handling matters sex. It was actually because the bill was, in some clauses, unconstitutional, the reason why debate on this bill was halted.
We cannot discuss induced abortion — a key plank of the bill — without addressing the vital question of when life begins. The Constitution, in Article 26.1-3, is crystal-clear that “Every person has the right to life” and that “The life of a person begins at conception” and finally that “A person shall not be deprived of life intentionally.” But the bill defines pregnancy as “presence of a foetus in the womb”.
About the Building Bridges Initiative, just like other Tanga Tanga supporters, Susan Kihika is hostile towards president Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga’s pet project. She has termed BBI a sham and as a project that was doomed from the get-go.
“Brothers & Sisters the BBI is a SHAM. It will leave Kenya more divided than ever before. It is quickly gaining momentum in Balkanizing our country and whipping up terrible tribal emotions. The BBI is BAD for Kenya! BBI is the greatest political CON JOB of our TIME. It’s a SCUM (sic)!”, Susan Kihika twitted back in January 2020.
With such kind of incendiary proclamation, then it follows that one is not surprised that Uhuru Kenyatta and his gang kicked the rising Nakuru Senator from the Jubilee-led Senate Majority Whip position in May.
But the hostility Ms Kihika has towards the Jubilee government did not end with her relinquishing the lucrative position in the senate. Last week, Senator Kihika was vocal in her calls to Uhuru Kenyatta to dissolve both the government as well as parliament.
